Bats with good taste

We have a few brown bats here at Oatlands who have good taste in residences.  They’ve moved into the top of one of our mansion porch columns.  The location isn’t ideal for our building condition and maintenance, but the bats sure are good for the garden.  I just learned that an average bat can eat 500 insects an hour, and 3000 in an evening (thanks for the info, Loudoun Wildlilfe Conservancy! http://www.loudounwildlife.org/HHBats_of_Loudoun1.htm).  Bats are also the only mammal with the ability to fly.  We’ll keep an eye on our little buddies as the summer progresses and keep you posted.
